In 2008 Flatfish commissioned the internationally recognised Humber Seafood Institute to conduct research and provide evidence on the current status of fisheries and stock levels to aid the company with the sustainable sourcing of Flatfish species.

over a two year period the Institute looked at both Lemon sole and Plaice fisheries and conducted a comprehensive length to weight validation program confirming the sizes and weights required to confirm fish maturity.

In Febuary 2010 a final combined report was issued by the institute which confirms Flatfish’s sustainable sourcing policy takes into account minimum size/weight, catch methods and responsible fisheries management.
